On February 28, 2025, at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, the scientific seminar “AI Applications for Finance and Insurance Institutions” was held to explore and discuss practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the fields of finance and insurance. This event was co-organized by the UEH School of Technology and Design (CTD), the Institute of Intelligent and Interactive Technology under CTD in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Technology and Innovation (ISC), with the participation of leading experts in the technology and finance industries, to provide insights into the potential of AI in improving and optimizing processes and services in these two important fields.

In the context of strong digital transformation, AI is becoming a powerful tool to help financial institutions improve their credit assessment capabilities, forecast risks, personalize customer services and optimize operations. However, along with outstanding benefits, the application of AI also poses many challenges such as data security, algorithmic risks and impacts on traditional workflows. This discussion will provide a comprehensive perspective on how to exploit AI potential effectively and sustainably in the finance - insurance industry.

This scientific seminar is the first event in a series of activities in 2025 organized by the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Technology and Innovation Incubation (ISC) to promote technology application and develop an open innovation startup ecosystem in Vietnam and the region. This activity is also part of the CTD Learning & Sharing series of activities, aiming to share knowledge, connect experts, businesses and the community to create practical values ​​for sustainable development.

The panel discussion includes three in-depth presentations, as well as sharing practical perspectives from experts in the fields of AI and finance:

  • Dr. Ho Diep (EDUNet Education Network Company Limited, Ho Chi Minh City International University, Deputy Director of Vietnam Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy): Introducing neural network technology and Transformer, two modern technology trends in the field of artificial intelligence. In addition, sharing how this technology is used through the SmartvOCR application, which can provide solutions to improve document processing processes in financial and insurance organizations, helping to increase work efficiency and minimize errors. This AI application will help automate document recognition and processing, thereby optimizing document appraisal and resolving customer requests in the financial and insurance industry.
  • Dr. Pham Quoc Hai (University of Economics and Finance): Introducing the model of using artificial neural networks (ANN) in credit risk assessment at Vietnamese enterprises. This is a practical application of AI in forecasting and minimizing credit risks, helping financial institutions make more accurate lending decisions and protect their finances from bad debts. Along with that, analyzing the opportunities and challenges that Vietnamese financial enterprises face when applying AI technology to this process.
  • Mr. Ha Than (General Director of Lac Viet Information Technology Joint Stock Company): Sharing from a practical perspective through the introduction of AI solutions in financial analysis and financial assistants, especially modern technologies developed by Lac Viet Company. These solutions help financial and insurance organizations quickly make smart financial decisions, through big data analysis and providing accurate financial forecasts. The application of AI in financial analysis not only saves time but also improves work efficiency, optimizes investment strategies and minimizes risks.

In addition to the presentations, the seminar also has an open discussion section, where experts and attendees can exchange and answer questions about hot issues in the fields of AI and finance - insurance. This is also a great opportunity for financial and insurance organizations, businesses and experts interested in AI applications to share, exchange and update the latest trends, while expanding cooperative relationships in the industry and gaining more practical perspectives for future applications.
